The Association of Southeast Asian Nations manufacturing PMI rebounded to 51 in January
The ASEAN manufacturing purchasing Managers' Index (PMI) report released by S&P Global in January showed that the headline PMI rebounded to 51.0 from 50.3 in December, the highest level in the past three months. Manufacturing grew in three of the six ASEAN countries covered in the report: Thailand (54.5), the Philippines (53.5), Indonesia (ASEAN); Manufacturing shrank in three countries: Myanmar (49.6), Vietnam (47.4) and Malaysia (46.5).
Germany's 2022 trade surplus fell for the third year in a row
The trade surplus fell to 10 billion euros in December from 10.9 billion euros in November, according to data released by the Federal statistics office. Exports fell 6.3 per cent month-on-month to €127.4bn in December. Imports fell 6.1 per cent to €117.4bn. For the whole of 2022, the trade surplus narrowed sharply from 2021 to 76 billion euros, the third consecutive year of decline.
Maersk announces 2022 results: Profit up 57%
Maersk recently reported a 32% increase in revenue to $81.5 billion and a 57% increase in earnings before interest and tax to $30.9 billion in 2022. Last year, especially in the first half of the year, the Marine business had its strongest ever performance, with revenue up 33 percent, as strong demand led to high rates, the company said.
