A Feeder sank after colliding with a container vessel
On the morning of Oct 11, Vasi Star, a 1728 TEU feeder container ship owned by Singapore-based operator Vasi Shipping, collided with a container vessel. Vasi Star, deployed to the Thai-Malaysia-Bangladesh-India service, was en route from Kattupalli, India, to Bangkok port when it collided with a tugboat and vessel along the Chao Phraya River at about 7.10am local time.
The Wimonwan 8 tugboat is towing four barges carrying steel from Kaohsiung port to Bangkok. One of the barges, the Maha Nakhon 2, sank, but no one was injured. Visibility in the area was limited at the time of the accident, Thai media reported.
Vasi Star continued its voyage and arrived at Bangkok's Sahathai terminal at 10.30am the same day.
Founded in 2012, Vasi focuses its container shipping services mainly in the area between Thailand and Bangladesh, using Vasi Star (its only owned vessel) and two charter vessels. However, vessel tracking data showed that as of Oct 11, Vasi Star's status had been updated to "casualty or under repair".
