Maersk Performance Team open a new cold chain facility in North Carolina
Maersk's Performance Team announced a new cold storage facility in Wilmington, North Carolina, which is expected to be operational in the third quarter of next year. New facilities in the United States are planned to serve imports and exports.
North Carolina, which accounts for 10 percent of total U.S. pork exports, is the seventh-largest state in poultry production and the No. 1 producer of sweet potatoes, and Maersk said the facility is targeted at refrigerated markets for poultry, pork, bananas, potatoes and seafood. "It is ideally located close to 27 refrigerated merchandise production sites within 80 miles and can reach 225 million consumers within one to two days of shipping," the parent company said in a statement.
The facility is also expected to provide several additional services, including USDA inspection, handling, storage, cold storage logistics, unloading, packaging, stamping, Swai packaging, lot release, truck loading, box picking, battening, blasting freezing, de-battening, floor loading, boxing/repacking and tempering.
