Fire breaks out at Chittagong container yard
In June, a fire and explosion at the BM container yard in Chittagong, southern Bangladesh, killed 49 people, injured hundreds more and damaged 1,100 to 1,300 containers. This terminal's operations were suspended for nearly four months before it was recently allowed to handle import and export containers.
However, on the afternoon of December 13 local time, a fire broke out again at the BM container yard in Chittagong. The fire broke out in a jute warehouse at the BM container yard, where a large quantity of jute was kept for export abroad.
Firefighters from the warehouse, along with three firefighting units, worked for nearly an hour and a half to put out the blaze after it broke out. Firefighters are currently investigating the cause of the fire and the damage caused. Police also joined firefighters to keep the situation calm.
